Franken-Block to Franken-Bowl

These are the pics from a piece of Spalted Sycamore burl I had received from a friend. I didn’t get any pictures of the block before the turning, however I did stream and record a little bit of the battle ;-)

The block sat in the chuck for a few months after getting it rounded and the top coved a little. I figured it was best to walk away at that point as neither I nor the wood wanted to listen to each other. :-D

Not the best video, and definitely not some of my “better” applications of tool to wood, but definitely shows some of the struggles.

After finally figuring out what it wanted to be, it was definitely nice to see the outcome. Because of the large crack in the center that I was trying to keep. I couldn’t get the stem as thin as I wanted, but it definitely works well as the mint holder on a co-workers desk. :-)
