Walnut Log Box

This box was made from a walnut log found laying in the woods on the grounds of the Adawehi Institute in NC.
The sap wood had rotted away, but the heartwood was dry and in fine shape. The first picture was taken on top of my dinning room table the wood of which is referred to in my post “Table/Bench”, the next was on the floor.
Finish is Watco Oil.

Neat…wish I could think of doing something like this. I have a stack of red oak firewood….think I grab a piece and break out the chisels. Never ceases to amaze me when we understand we do not have to do it like everyone does. What did you use for a finish?....Tks
