Alright, for those of you who have seen my other music box and didn’t believe how “less than perfect” my daughter’s music box as well as the one I made for my wife is, here are a few pics. I have continued to learn a little bit each time I make a box…So I figure about 20 more years and I should be pretty good.

looks good to me as well.
I’m curious, I’ve seen these devices in a couple of catalogs, is there a mechanism to have the music play when the box is opened?

I have to be young and stupid before I can be old and wise. Nice job. Thank you for sharing.

That’s a cool box. I’m sure it will be treasured. Keep on building them and one day you’ll have a lot of boxes. You’ll be able to look back and see that each one is a little better than the last. Some people collect a series of objects. Yours would be a good one to have. We’ll be looking for them.

To me, box making is like life. You can always get better, but never perfect.

Hi JD,

We all started somewhere right?

No need to be concerned about less than perfect work. (can’t be done anyway)

If each one teaches you something, that’s really all that counts.

Thanks again guys!

Darryl… I have purchased all of my music box movements at this site doesn’t look like much but they have a huge selection of movements. The ones that I have used are all sankyo 18 note movements. They are economical and sound great. Once my skills improve I might consider one of the 72 note movements but they are expensive!

I haven’t found any movements that start and stop with the lid opening/closing but I think they are called “wire stop movements”

If you look at this site and give them a call they could probably lead you in the right direction. Let me know if you find anything out.
