This 26 ½” X 14 ½” X 22” (L X W X H) hope chest is made from recycled Ash church pews. The top and side panels are from the seats. The two end panels are from either end of the pew. Carved in the ends is the symbol for the United Church which is where the pews came from. I left the original stain in the carving to let it stand out and as a nod to where the wood came from. Maple is used for the frames. The outside of the chest is finished with a hand rubbed oil varnish mix then several coats of hand rubbed wax. Inside is finished with shellac.

I like every aspect of this chest. The use of the different woods …. the proportional hight of the chest…. the carved ends on the sides…. It even makes me a little nostalgic ….. I think back to the time when I was church alter boy.
