Here is a box I made recently and it is now for sale in a small art gallery in Nakusp, BC. The main wood for the box is made of cherry wood from the same orchard in Nakusp where I got the apple wood (see crib boards). It is beautiful curly cherry, with amazing color much nicer than normal cherry lumber.
The top of the box is a South American wood called Kabukalli. The hinges and corner keys are purpleheart. The box is power carved with a random orbit sander, I carefully layed out and followed the lines and it’s quite easy to do. This was the first time I made my own small wooden hinges and it was quite a challenge.
The box is 10” x 5.5” x 4” tall. The top is about 5/8” thick and the sides are 1/2”. The box is finished with Danish oil and paste wax. It is so amazingly soft that you just want to caress it, hence the name.
Thanks for looking!
