My first project that involves wood is this D-Handle router jig. Watching Charles Neil’s “The Magic of Routers” disk on Jigs, Charles suggested making a D-Handle Router Base and demonstrated with a 1/4 ” piece of plywood for a base and He had stapled an MDF handle to it for demonstration purposes.

If you check the Handle you will see there is a bottom lip. It’s the full dimension from the oak stock that’s been sitting in my shop forever. I trimmed it down to 1 1/2 by my table saw then my band saw. Tried to plane it down, chisel it down and sand it down. Finally got it shaped to my hand.

Two coats of shellac, sanding and two coats of poly on the handle.

Until I can afford the porter cable D-Handle this will have to do.

My wife asked me “Where did you buy this?” LOL!

Thanks for looking

I did a recent search and found that Bricofleur had posted A shopmade D Handle Router Base about 2years ago. Might be another source ?

great project. I actually have a piece of plexi glass to make a larger based for my router. Adding a D- handle would be a good idea.

Peter,

How thick is your plexi glass? If I were to do it over, I’d use 3/8ths . You also need to consider the lip of the router. Thanks!

Nice work. I needed this when I eased the edges on my guitar build. Those horns can get a bit tipsy. On my to do list for sure.
