These tables were fun to make. I was commissioned to make these for a friend who wanted to use them in his man cave. He wanted them “tall enough to sit a beer on without leaning over”. They are made from pine stock from the lumber store, and I finished them in Espresso stain.

I can’t take credit for the design. I found these online, but they were only 20 inches tall, and the pentagon in the middle was not filled in. It seemed like a waste to me to have all of that surface area not filled in for a tasty beverage to be sat on.

Thanks.

Fridge, squinting at the pic with old eyes! Half laps on the joinery?

@theoldfart, you will have to excuse my ignorance, but I’m not familiar with the term half-laps as it pertains to joinery. I will tell you, this is done completely with glue and tiny brad nails. No biscuits, but there are some braces underneath the tabletop. I did the top and bottom separate and after drying I put the legs on.

Just looked it up (Google is amazing) and no… no half laps on the joinery. Two layers for the table top allowed me to join these together. The top is all separate pieces.

The angles would have been a pain in the butt (but a fun challenge) with half laps on the joinery.

Great looking tables, wouldn’t be surprised if others ask for the same. Nice job.

LOL I imagine the beer is at his house! Hopefully he isn’t sitting cheap watered down brands on them :)
