I started woodworking four years ago, after my daughter was born. I have always been into “This Old House”, “Yankee Workshop”, etc. For my daughter’s first christmas I decided to make her a music box. At the time, all I had was a table saw and some wood glue. Needless to say…her’s is not the best looking music box but it is more about the sentiment. We still crank it up every night when we put her to bed.
Next came my wife’s first mother’s day. I decided to make her a music box as well. This time the box came out a little better due to the addition of a router and router table.
Now, my son was born on christmas morning 2007. Yup, anyone that thinks that’s “neet”, “cool”, or “precious”
has never gone through this experience. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. So now it is his turn to get a music box made by daddy.
I joined LJs after the project was finished but I wanted to include some pics of the after because this is by far the best work I have done. I seldom get a chance to go out to the garage and work on projects other than the “honey do’s”
If you have any questions I’ll be glad to try to answer them but remember that I am a novice and most of the time if I do something good it was a mistake.
Thanks for looking.

Beautiful music box!
What type of wood did you use?

Very nice, everthing about it looks good. I think you may be a little too hard on yourself.
Good job

Thanks Guys, I should post some pics of the first box that I made for my daughter…You’d probably laugh.
I used Cherry for the box frame and had some 1/8” pine from another project that I used for the top panel and bottom.

jd,
I think I’d like to see those earlier projects too. Come on, what do you have to lose? This box has nice proportions, tight corners, and a good finish but, I think we need to see your earlier work to determine if you have any real potential. LOL.
BTW, my oldest daughter was born on January 9th and even then it’s not very “cool”. She eventually figured out she was getting half of her Christmas presents on her birthday and we haven’t heard the end of it yet.
Seriously, keep up the good work.

Good job!
Now the poor child has to go through life having his birthday “rolled into” Christmas. I was born a couple weeks before Christmas, and that was bad enough.

Nice, nice, nice. You are a welcomed addition to lumberjocks. I joined a year ago, and it’s like therapy for me. I see everything from a stack of wood to a complicated harpsicord on this site. I love it. It’s the best place on the web, with the best people. Now there is one more.
