Maple with a purpleheart inlay and some walnut dowels added for visual interest.

I got over my fear of using the “big router” Joe helped me with the first pass. I finished the rest while he was at work to surprise him when he got home.

Came out pretty decent, I think.

I made a template… the design didn’t turn out as I had planned. First attempt though. No need to beat myself up over it. It still looks nice.

This actually came out nice! These are hard to make. The inlay goes all the way through both sides and was made similar to this one. Lots of routing, bandsawing, gluing, and hand planing.

One of these days i’ll be able to make something in the shop again :)

I think that you did a nice job on this and I know that you must have learned a lot from the project. Good work.

This came out great. I like the detail the dowels give. Not to take anything away, but would that be considered inlay since it goes all the way through? Is this more about laminating?

Very impressive to make the “top three”. It doesn’t matter if it didn’t come out the way you planned, it just makes it unique. Look forward to see more. We don’t live that far from each other, I live in Palmer.

Chuck, the process is far more similar to inlay than it is to lamination. I would consider it a hybrid of both
