This is the piece of blistered maple that I rough turned about a month ago. It was my first attempt at turning green. It measures 8” wide by 4.75” tall and finished with wipe-on poly. It has some really cool grain patterns, especially on the bottom.

Your knack for titles is as impressive as your ability to turn. Very cool, on both counts.

I guess “Blistered” is a good word for it …I have a few pieces of 1×10 Maple that I purchased because I thought the figure looked like the lunar surface maps that I’ve seen…...LOL : ) They would make a great jewelry box , but I don’t think I’m skilled enough to do them justice yet . Your bowl is awesome and I’m glad it didn’t crack or warp on you ! : )

Dusty56,
I should have taken more pictures, especially when I remounted it after it had dried. I was just too anxious to finish the project. Patience is something I am still working on. It was “warped” or out of round and cracked. That is why I just roughed out the form. Most of the surface cracks turned away. If you look on the left side of picture 2, you can see a crack. I filled it with CA adhesive and purple heart dust. It turned out pretty well. It almost looks like it is part of the grain pattern. I have another one drying that should be ready for finishing in a week or so…if I can wait.
Thanks for all the kind remarks. I appreciate them all.

Trifern,
This is another gorgeous bowl. You have certainly come a long way in a short period of time.

Another great one Joe! You can see the depth of the figure in the pictures. It must really “pop” in real life. Thanks for posting it.

The grain in this Maple is amazing. You did a nice job. Can’t wait to see it in person.
