My first box

This is my first attempt at making a box. I resawed some 8/4 walnut I had laying around the shop to make 1/2” sides. The top is oak from a tree that got struck by lightning in my grandmother’s yard about 30 years ago. My dad has been hoarding the lumber my whole life but I got a hold of a couple boards to use :) This is a present for my sister’s birthday that is looong overdue. The finish is danish oil and wipe on poly. Oh yeah, the splines are oak too but they didn’t really contrast as well as I was hoping.

Your first box is a beauty. I like the oak and walnut combo.

That is a fine looking box. Congratulations.

The history of that oak will make this special to yer sis. I actually like the underside of the lid better than the top (a nice surprise when you open it)
