Project Information
Haven't posted any projects for awhile, so I figured it's about time. I made this for my friend's 4 year old grandson. He's a big Batman fan and I thought he'd like this.
It's made with Honduran mahogany and white oak with light ebonizing on the oak.
I found the bat logo online and resized it, printed it, then scrolled it out with my scrollsaw. Yellow textured glass was cut and fitted to the inside behind the logo. Brass screws and threaded inserts allow the glass to be replaced if it ever breaks. The light cord came from Lowes and clips into a reducing washer epoxied into the through hole. The bulb is just a 4 watt nightlight bulb.
Finished with Watco Danish oil to highlight the grain and top coated with several coats of Deft semi-gloss lacquer. Sanded with 320 between coats and 600 after the last, then buffed out with paste wax
I was looking to get a gothic/deco look to recall the old gothic Batman from the late 30's, early 40's. I think I got what I wanted. The overall size is about 16"L x 8"H x 8'D. Any comments or criticisms are welcome.
