Cedar Treasure Box for Grandson's Birthday

A friend gave me some ends and pieces from a new cedar fence thinking I might find a use for them. I’ve been slowly building treasure boxes for the grandchildren and I thought this cedar might just be the material for the next one. I’ve never made a rounded top before so I designed as I went. The finish is three coats of spar urethane lightly sanded between coats. Gabe thought it turned out just fine. I still have some cedar left so who knows what the next project will be.

That’s a very nice Treasure chest you have made.

I made a box from Western Red Cedar scraps and produced much the same result, I think they were destined for the stove originally. I think it now has a place in his lounge room !

Very good looking and well crafted treasure box! Great design, like the rounded top. Very lucky grandson.

Have your say...
