I am finished carving. Mictecacihuatl is the goddess of the underworld in Aztec culture. She is the protector of the bones and also believed to be the inspiration of Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead in Hispanic culture.
She is hand carved Basswood with a Black Walnut base. 16”x12”x7” including the base. I carved her with hand tools and used my Dremel set to finish small detail that I didn’t have the tools for. She is finished with micro-crystalline wax and coats of polyurethane and some buffing.
