I swapped labor for labor: my uncle added a 20amp circuit and lights to my garage shop and I built him a park bench. I bought all the electrical supplies and he bought all the wood.

We made some minor modifications to a plan in the June/July 2006 issue of Wood Magazine and are quite pleased with the results. We dropped out the decorative cut out in the top rail (a place for moss to collect) and raised the seat by lengthening the legs. We used western red cedar and finished it using a spar urethane. I did complete a blog series on the build. Thanks for looking

Very nice bench, and I like the trading idea. What is spar urethane? I am looking for a good finish for my new outside bench model.

It’s a very nice bench and I’m sure that he must have been happy with his end of the deal.

I think your uncle got the sweet end of the deal :)

Really beautifully bench. I find the design and proportions to be extremely harmonious and pleasing. Your build quality is top notch – wonderful use of grains.
