I think it was 9×9x7’. On the back we mortised a big keyed slot to fit a matching male piece bolted to the customers wall framing as a mount. Tomorrow we are building a 12×16 x9’ similar piece from an egg shaped ancient doug fir log with a very interesting weathered patina. We will be using the forklift.

Great looking mantel SoCal. This mantel would look great in the winery for which you built the doors. How were the mortise and cleat shaped? Did you have to anchor the mantel to the cleat with mechanical fasteners or did you peg it?

the guy with the log is helping me harvest it from the customers yard. For tools we used a woodmizer,router, dremmel tool, and a band saw. Mechanical fasteners were hidden in the rear with gravity doing most of the work against the cleat
