how do you dry branch without cracks?

They were actually a special order from a customer and are going into the mail today. To dry them without cracking I carve them green or as close to it as I can. Half the black actually checked on me before I finished and this was all I could get. Fortunatly it is a few more than requested. Once they are carved I let them dry out in a little pile of the carving chips for a few days and then soak in flax seed oil.
