Pen Keeper

After getting bitten by the pen making phenomena my 6 y/o really loves making those (so far been making one a year for the past 3 years), so when I asked her if she would want to make one for her teacher for graduating kindergarten the answer was easy to guess.

I guided her as she made the pen, and then went on my own to make the box to hold and present it in. I must say this box took more effort and time than I had anticipated, but I’m glad with how it came out. This project is one of the few I simply winged it with whatever I could find, and however it would workout from one moment to the next. Made from a cutoff from an old project, I’m guessing purpleheart based on the dust from sanding it,but it browned real fast and makes for a very nice contrast to the brass hardware I turned for this and the pen and brass/gold colors as well.

finished with 3 coats of shellac an sanded to 600grit.

Very nice work my friend.
It is classy with a capital “C” !
You are right about it bringing out the brass in the pen.
Your daughter is very good at pen turning too.

Wow! Fantastic collaborative effort, Sharon.

Nifty design on the box. I don’t recall seeing one like it before.

That’s a really clever pen holder. I really like how it contains the pen and becomes a stand. The brass hardware looks great too.
