Project Information

This was an emotional project like no other because it was for me. I chose to use Hickory and Walnut because of the "live" look of Hickory with two coats of Minwax natural stain. I "enlisted" a couple of my younger troops to complete the task as I was not supposed to work on my own project(but I could not resist aiding in my own retirement gift). Each drawer holds one of the four different uniforms that I have worn in my 21 plus year career and are safely tucked away under glass. The bottom drawer holds the current ABU with the current squadron patch engraved as the drawer pull and suede backer to match the stripes on the sleeve. The third drawer is the BDU with blue suede and my specialty code badge engraved as the drawer pull. The second is the DCU with brown suede as the backer and the Prime BEEF badge engraved. The first drawer holds the service dress uniform with white suede as the backer with the current Air Force logo as the drawer pull. There is a video photo frame uploaded with hundreds of pictures of personnel and projects that I have worked with throughout the years. I still have a few extras to add that include l.e.d lighting and two additional cases as backdrops for the coin rack and photo frame on each shelf. This project was made in two parts, finished with fours coats of Formby's Tung oil.

It looks very nice. I like the combination of walnut and hickory. Congratulations on 21 years of service. I myself have just hit 21 years in the fire service. It's nice to commemorate something that has been such a big part of your life.

Now this makes me proud, one as a woodworker, and as a fellow retiree too. This case, is the largest shadow box I've seen so far. A very fitting piece for someone who served his country and our freedom. Thank you for your sacrifices and loyal service.

Great work, thanks for your service, I'm interested in your AF master sergeant shadow box. How long does it take to build one?
