It uses a threaded insert in the handle, which the cutter screws into. I added a little epoxy to ensure the insert doesn't move. When inserting the threaded insert, you need to be careful not to split the handle, which I did on the olivewood. To prevent that, before the final turning, I used one of those metal ratcheting band clamps used in plumbing (not sure what it's called), which will allow you to work the insert back and forth a few times (essentially tapping the blank) until it can be screwed in without splitting the wood.
