Buddy of mine made my wife an intarsia dog for Valentines day but wouldnt let me pay him for it. He said he would just get me to build him something he needed later. Well later finally arrived last week when he sent me plans for a cat condo he wanted fabricated. He advised he would put the carpet on it if I would do the rest. The plans called for 3” PVC pipe for the legs and used a unique system of 3 1/4” plugs to secure them in place. Works well…just make sure you get a 3 1/4” hole saw before starting. I had a 3” and a 3 1/2” but not the 3 1/4”. I couldnt locate one at either of the local hardware stores so would have to use the “fly cutter” instead. This would have been fine if it had only needed a few but plans called for 26 of them to be cut out of 2×4 stock. Needless to say, it took half a day to cut them all. Base demensions were 23” x 23” for plywood. I attached the plugs with 1/4” bolts so he could remove them while putting carpet on. Only modification to the plan was the addition of a sleeping box to the top.
Was a fun build and got me out of making those oak poster frames for the elemantary school my wife works at….well out of it until tommorrow anyhow. BTW, the intarsia was a very good likeness of Barney the Shop Dog.

Outstanding for the cats – but you’ll now need to subcribe PVCJocks, sharing your skills over there!

Buster a trade is the highest payment you can get, IRS dont get
anything out of it. :)
That is a 5* cat condo
I’m busy developing an upgrade for my wife elevator, more of a
library step, 3 steps, so when this popped up, at first glance I thought
that this was one. Well back to the drawing board.
Now that Croc Bait has improved his family gene pool do you reckon
you can get her bedroom for a timber store?

Jim- Thanks sir!!!

L2L- Thanks Lee, Wasnt an original idea in it….lol

David- I contacted the PVC folks…they put me on the waiting list of course. Said they were way too busy processing your application. Receptionist kept mumbling about a certain super stylish PVC tea set or some such that they were evaluating for some constable in London….rofl

Jamie, pretty sure your wife would knock you up side of the head if you told her she had to climb this thing…lol
Will pass on the gene pool comment (for now) but will tell you that it was too late for trying to get dibs on the vacant room…the wife has done starting planning for the space. Knew I was in trouble when she went to talking about pulling out the carpet and putting down wooden flooring… dangit

very nice buster,i’m glad i don’t have any friends that want me to build them something, cause if i did i’d have to get my lazy tale to the shop in this heat and actually do something in it.the boss has been on me about her projects but she don’t realize i’m on summer break!!!!!

keep up the good work buster…..

Nice…I don’t know why I never thought of using pvc to build things like this, I have always used the cardboard kind. Thanks for sharing…now I am going to use your idea, if you don’t mind that is :-)

This is the best cat tree/condo build I’ve seen. It’s a good thing my shop kitty does not know this exists. :-)

My buddy added the carpet…have to admit it looked pretty cool after he did. Sent me a message the other day and said the cat seemed to enjoy it, guess that is the most important thing…lol
