We purchased an older home a couple of years ago and, as one might expect, the kitchen was in need of some updating. One extra-sore spot was a corner of the cabinets that had a tired old trash compacter in it… and wood spacers on both sides. We put our garbage can in there for a few weeks, but it was clear something much more acceptable had to be done.
So, my wife asked me to build some deep and wide drawers that could hold pots, pans, toaster, flat ware, you name it. I’ve uploaded a “before” and “after” photo of the specific area I’m describing. We had new counter tops and sinks installed at the same time as I finished the drawer cabinet. We also replaced all the cabinetry hardware throughout… which was fun and looks much better
It was a fun and rewarding project… the whole kitchen looks more up-to-date now… and I am more experienced at building drawers!

Great looking “upgrade”.
I am beginning to understand why folks prefer drawers to cabinet space.

Your drawers look great! That was a nice improvement and much better use of the space. The hardware adds a nice touch, too. We’ve been working on a kitchen remodel for YEARS now and always find additional things to do to it.
Welcome to LumberJocks! Look forward to seeing more of your projects.
Just a suggestion: You might want to put your best picture as the first one to get more people to look at it since that’s the one that’s featured on the projects page.

Looks good. I especially like the choice of cup pulls as the hardware.
I see that you installed a backsplash with the new countertop. Did you take out the wallpaper border with the remodel? Sorry to be so nosy, but I have apparently been watching far too many “Flip this house” shows with the wife.

That’s a great upgrade! (Although reading the title and thinking about Granny’s drawers in the kitchen had me worried.)
