I saw this bench and decided to design one of my own:
Other than adding a couple more legs at the rear for support and a couple cup holders it is largely the same bench. You can read about the construction in my blog here:

Greg: very nice. The color is fantastic. That inspired me. The bench just went on my “to do” list. If I ever get through with my wife’s list, I can start on mine.

what finish did you use? looking very good.

I used a cedar-colored exterior finish from Lowes. I forget the exact name of the brand, but I bought it in quart size and it is more of a paint than a stain (coats more than penetrates the wood). I used pretty-much the entire quart, so figure one bench for quart or 4 benches per gallon.
