This oval box is about 6×4 x 2, and might find a spot on SWMBO’s dresser. Both the top and box are made from pine (it used to be a mantle over our fireplace). it was very dry, and I was surprised how well it carved. 2 sided carving again for the lid. Finished with a glaze in the chip-carve and the decorative texture around the top, several coats of poly….

Nice one Henri.
It is neat to have some history in the wood too.

Is the bottom slanted? Or is that just an optical illusion?

This is a wonderful piece and I like the pattern.

Thanks….. But I must give some credit to Steve, as he had a Salt Box with a similar outer flute, which ‘inspired’ me to design a larger/deeper Oval Box…

Steve: no the bottom is not slanted, I may be but the box is on even keel…..

Gorgeous box! Great shapes and carving. The top is ornate and like the textures, definitely a keeper!
