Hungry Bird VS Angry Dog Automata

This is my take on Automata Designer Dug North’s “Unwelcome Dinner Guest”. Plans are in a special edition magazine called Gizmos and Gadgets available at Fox Chapel Publishing. http://www.foxchapelpublishing.com/product_p/sipgzm.htm

Instructions are detailed with lots of photos and made building this automata surprisingly easy. My local store didn’t have the required mini wooden bowling pin or proper sized egg so I improvised and created my own bird and dog –a Scottie.

A lot of scraps were used for this project. About 18 species of exotic and domestic woods: Ancient Kauri, Padauk, Bloodwood, Canarywood, Ebony, Bird’s Eye Maple, Yellow wood, Walnut, Oak, Cherry, Poplar, Hard Maple, Birch, Sycamore, Cocobolo, Cedar, Bubinga and one unknown species. Roughly 12H X 5 1/2D X 13w (with crank)

Automatas are so much fun to build. Now that I’ve made a couple (check my project page for my take on Puffins designed by fellow LJ, Wanda Sowry) it’s time to try a design of my own creation.

Thanks for looking!

You have done well on both of these. I could see this becoming an obsession once you know how.

Hi there Monte! Thanks so much. You’re right, it’s almost as addictive as box and spoon making!
