In 12/2012 my son Tyler and I started restoring my Grandmother’s old 5-leg table and chairs. We had to replace most of the brackets under the table, strip and sand, re-glue joints and recover the chairs. The table itself is 42×42 inches, it came with one leaf and we made 2 more stretching it to 72 inches. It can go up to 92 inches which is why the 5th leg is needed. We used General Finishes Java Gel Stain and then several coats of Gloss poly. We made a video of the table here and the chairs here.
You can see before and after pictures and Tyler working on his table. His Great Grandmother would be very proud.
