I saw a project here that used a utility sink for the cooler tub and was inspired to build a pair for my son and I. This was his first Father’s Day! I used treated pine for the internal frame. The legs are 6/4 cypress. The lids frame and the mating frame on the cabinet is Spanish cedar. The board and battens are cypress fence boards that was planed to smooth. The tub is insulated by glueing and wiring styrofoam wall board to them. The 1 1/2” drain is reduced to 3/4 and a 1/4 turn valve installed. Final touches are: rope and PVC handles, a bottle opener, and a handle for the lid. All finished in Thompsons Water Seal in a honey hue.

This was a fun project, and my son was thrilled with the gift!

The images are from an iPhone. I have no idea why they are rotated. My apologies.

-- Regards, Jeff

That’s really neat.

I use a couple coolers as cigar humidors. This kind of thing makes me think I might not be stuck with them looking like homegrown sin.
