Bunk beds built from planed 2×4’s for a “knotty pine look” (i.e. #2 & better Douglas fir 2×4’s). head boards and foot boards are all frame and panel and mortise and tennon construction. Built for some friends – they finished it with a very light stain and rub on poly.

Looks very nice. Did you have some plans to go by or just wing it?

Thanks for the comments, I bought the Rockler bunk bed plans ($15.00) to get a feel for the proper proportions and then modified to my liking and skill level. I built up a model in sketchup to help me visualize the final product.

I really like to looks of the bunks. I think this is going to be one of my next projects and was wondering how long it took you to complete?

it was a ~4-weekend project for me (Friday nights and Saturdays). the painted bunk beds in my projects folder took an extra couple days to do the stairs and stair rails but other than that the same design.

Very nice bed.I Love it.Wooden bunk beds are a very popular type of bunk bed and have many advantages over metal bunk beds. When choosing a bunk bed it is important to pick one that will fit well in the space you have available.

Have your say...
