The last of a group of walking sticks I have been making for an exhibition. I actually started the handle a couple of years ago but gave up in despair as the body proportions were all wrong. Also my relatives made rude remarks about the shape of the handle as it was then. Recently I had another look at it and changed the handle, made the face look less ferocious and shortened the arms. The proportions are still not right but they look OK for the type of project it is.
Made out of New Zealand Kauri and Sycamore with bindings from our local craft shop. Kauri is not the easiest wood to carve fine detail on as it tends to be rather fibrous. Sycamore is my favorite though, especially for walking sticks.
