These are actually getting really popular, and they are so simple to make once you make your template. They are simply planks of 3/4 inch by 8 inch planks of Maple stock, cut to length and sanded, then I applied the varnish and let it dry before painting flat black numbers and tick marks with a stencil I made out of foam core poster board.

You can’t take the door jam with you when you move out of your parents’ house, but you can take this with you. As your child grows, you all know the deal… You have them stand against this board and mark their height, then write with permanent marker on the board the date.

It was a fun project, and these three are for my three boys who are 9, 6 and 3.

For such a simple idea this project really makes sense. Cool!

This is really a neat idea. Saves all the markings on the wall. One question, where is a good place to keep the boards so not to be in the way? lol

These boards have hanging hardware on the back, and are meant to be hanging in the child’s room just as any other poster or picture frame would be. I imagine you could hang it behind the door so when it opens it covers it up, but where’s the fun in that? I will hang them right in my hallway where everyone can see them when they come in!

What a fantastic idea… Will need to do this before August and my daughter’s first birthday… Thanks for sharing…
