Hello All,
My 9 year old son and I spent some of this afternoon bending some arms and bows for soon to be completed chairs. He was all excited after we bent the first one and asked me why I didn’t tell him how fun it was. I reminded that I most certainly did because I couldn’t stop talking about the things we did in the Windsor chair class that I took last August. At any rate it was gratifying knowing that I could duplicate what I learned in the class. Spending the afternoon with my son teaching him how to bend red oak for Windsor chairs, it just doesn’t get any better than that.

Wow! Looking good! Can’t wait to see the chairs! And you’re right, spending time like this with the young fella is time well spent!

I love em’. You are taking up a skill that not everyone can do. Making curved pieces of furniture sets your projects apart from others. 90% of projects are flat and have straight lines. If one of my projects allows me, I always like to do something that breaks up those straight lines. Keep up the good work.. Thats great that your youngin’ is having fun as well…

Nothing like quality time with a son! Mine is almost 22, and I wish I had some of his younger days back.

Fred…..nice job of bending. From the center picture it looks like there is some sort of detail right in the center of the arch….or is that a joint? Can’t wait to see the chairs.

Nice to see youngsters involved. Some think Video games are a skill. I have lots of green oak can it be air dried without setting it, so it can be bent later?
