Hi there. New to woodworking and fumbling my way through setting up shop in a two-car garage. Trying to organize non-shop clutter both for practice and as a means to make more space for new tools. :-)

By the door into our house, we had a spot where we kept unassembled boxes (for shipping), a recycle bin, mop buckets, and assorted bags for lawn clippings or other uses. I decided to organize that space to allow me to practice 1) working with MDF and 2) making dados with my router.

Lots of mistakes but I figured that is what practice is supposed to help with. The recycle compartment isn’t wide enough to allow putting the lid on the bin. Some dados are wider than they should be. The front compartment is, I feel, too narrow to be of much use. It still needs to be primed and painted, and yes, that is a shoe print on the right side wall. :-)

Overall it has proven to be a useful piece and it was fun to build. It’s not on par with many of the great works on LJ but hey, we all started somewhere.

Looks pretty useful in the second picture. And, if it helped you learn, it was the perfect project. Keep it up

Thanks Gary. Woodworking is a lot of fun but like anything else it requires practice.

Have your say...
