Finally, a handmade spokeshave was born out of this kit:

Allow about 4 to 5 hours for this project if you are doing this the first time (more if you plan to use a coping saw instead of a bandsaw as the cutting tool). A router plane, though not essential, would help seat the blade precisely and quickly.

It may be much more economical to buy a spokeshave (http://www.leevalley.com/en/wood/page.aspx?p=44834&cat=1,50230) after taking into account your labor and time. The fun of making one yourself, however, is priceless.
