Bowtie Table

This is a little table that I need when we go to car shows. I thought ‘dI make it in a Chevy theme . First I wanted to make an insert and rout it in, but that would mean the corners would be rounded and I wanted them sharp. So I made the bow tie out of three pieces and glued on ends and then the sides. It conforms to the golden rectangle being 18.75” long and 11.6” wide. The sides are a 123” radius and the ends are a 28” radius.

It is made from soft maple with a pistachio bowtie. The pivot blocks are made from hard maple because I had to tap holes in them for set screws. All the hardware is solid brass.
The cross supports and pivot blocks are doweled in place. In order to keep the ends of the legs from wearing or splitting, I used part of the brass casing from a 30-30 shell to line the holes.

It has red “feet” because I coated the leg tips with West System epoxy to keep moisture from creeping into the legs when we use the table on grass.

It is finished with UV resistant polyurethane.

Outstanding piece. The ONLY way it could be any better would be if there was a small ”Black #3” on it! LOL

Seriously, this is a beautiful table and I am sure it will see a lot of use and receive a lot of comments.

Great looking table—be careful that it’s not the hit of the next car show instead of the cars!

Hey Jim, a “chevy” would have made the Chevy easier to install, no? :-)

Very nicely made with your customary attention to detail.

SUPER NICE COOL TABLE!

Wonderful design…

What if one does not have any spent 30-30 shells? LOL

COOL unique folding & holding design…

... kinda reminds me of the ole TV tray / table of yesteryear…

Great JOB!

Thank you.
