These are the first two woodworking projects I have completed in several years. I finally have a house with a garage where I can store a few tools and have a place to work.
My wife wanted to get my 2 year old son an activity table for his birthday. I thought I can build that and it is a good reason to get back into wood working. The table is fairly simple the it is made out of 1x pine and a sheet of 3/4 plywood. The top opens up to a storage compartment below. Originally I planned to make the entire top flat, but I added a 3/4 lip to prevent his cars and crayons from constantly rolling onto the floor. From my pictures you can see the completed table and the completed table with my son’s wooden train set on top. This table as worked great for the train set as it keeps it contained and off the floor.
The last picture I have posted is a chalkboard I made for my son. We have a gas fireplace we never use so I decided we need to put it to good use. I built a frame with a couple of extra 2×4’s laying around, screwed a sheet of 1/2 plywood to it, painted it with chalkboard paint added some trim to the sides and a tray to the bottom. The frame is the exact size of the metal fire place insert so friction holds it in place. It has been up for 6 months and hasn’t wobbled and provided hours of entertainment.
