This is a bowl that I promised my wife Kathy, and have been working on in between other projects. There is only three natural woods, Cherry, Curly Maple, and Bubinga., the rest of the woods, came from salvaged cabinets, and flooring display boards, and had some really hard plywood, and Formica strips, making it very hard to turn, and a lot of constant chisel sharpening. There is 375 individual pieces in all, and I used 12 segments at 15 degrees. the top ring is made from Bubinga, and has 36 segments, at 5 degrees. The bowl measures 11 1/2” in diameter, and 5” deep. It was finished with 4 coats of hand rubbed BLO, and two top coats of WOP.

C&C Welcome.

Wow beautiful work! Very nicely done. Never turned formica before, but I’d keep the sharpener out for sure.

Rockbuster, That is absolutely beautiful. I bet Kathy loves it. You have really got the segmenting thing happening.
Congratulations on a super job.
Thank you for showing.

What a fabulous bowl! Great patterns and wood and Formica combo. The top ring really added more beauty. Excellent turning!

I’m late to this party but that don’t change how beautiful this bowl turned out. I Love your work Don! You have an eye for making wood show it’s beauty! Amazing nice work!

I just noticed that your beautiful bowl didn’t get LJ’s Daily Top 3, I think it should of got Editors Choice!
Guess I’ll just have to step up and give my personal approval for a private badge!
