Kitchen Stool

I needed a stool for my kitchen because the top shelves of my cabinets are very high and I am very short (5’7”)... so I made this my next wood shop project before I tackle something bigger.

The maple frame is built with half lap joints and I don’t know what I was thinking when I decided to do a through tenon joint because I have never cut a mortise before in my life. I took me a couple of hours to chisel them out by hand. They aren’t perfect looking but they are sollid. The top is walnut with two maple stripes.

Finish—I wiped on 4 layers of min-wax oil based polyurethane finish mixed with mineral spirits.

Nice job!
I think you’ll find it useful as a small table too if you sit on the floor at all.

I think it looks great, I like the contrast of the different woods.

It looks to nice to stand on.

This is a nice clean stool with character. Congratulations.

That’s one good looking stool! Like the stripes design, great use of contrasting woods. It looks sturdy enough to do the job. Well done!
