We have a collection of pencils from places we have vested. It is getting rather large sine I have retired so instead of the several cups we have used to hold it. I decided “what the heck” let’s build another box. Since we have been visiting a lot of historic presidential homes for some reason it seemed appropriate that the container be an octagon. This turned out to be a new learning experience, since all my previous work has been rectangular or round. It is made of cheery and walnut. With star shaped (I thought since it housed presidential pencils that this would be appropriate also) walnut inlays. It is finished with Watco Oil.

Very nice! I really like the design & wood choice. Good work!

That is nice! What angles do ya cut to make the octagon shape?

Thanks. The angles are 22 1/2 degrees. Next is a segmented bowl. But I will make a dedicated fence for those cuts

Cool and lovely pencil holder! Great design, love the shape and the stars. Great wood colors and finish as well. Great job!
