Another Box

When I finished my second box , I gave it to a friend. Her daughter saw it and said she wanted a special box for herself. That was several months ago, and she has continually bothered me asking for “the box I promised”.

I finally got around to making her one, but it wasn’t very “special”. So I decided that since I still had not decided if it needed a handle for the lid, and I also had not used my scroll saw in about a year, I would try something new.

I like the way it turned out. I used the router table to make all of the cuts, using the technique that I have seen here (think it was called “mitre box”?). This was my first box using that technique, so I am happy with how it turned out. I will definitely use this technique again!

The wood is Osage Orange, Purpleheart, Spalted Maple, Padauk, and Walnut. It is finished with 3 coats of wipe-on Poly, with a stepped sanding between each coat.

Thanks for looking!

Very nice work. I really like the name handle. (I actually have the ability to murder wood with a scroll saw.) Very impressive work. I’ll bet Brooke is going to be one happy girl!

It’s beautiful and love the name handle. I’m sure she loves it and will treasure it forever.
