Project Information

This bowl has 85 pieces … a solid maple disk in the bottom, and 7 rings (oak and maple) with 12 segments to a ring.

It is 9 1/2" in diameter, and 2 1/4" high. The walls are 1/8" thick, so this bowl doesn't weigh very much.

I glued the bottom disk directly to a waste block that is in turn screwed onto a face plate.

It is sealed with shellac, sanded, and finished with 5 coats of lacquer, then buffed with the Beall Buffing System.

Nice work Gerry. I like the contrast between the maple and oak.

Beautiful bowl Gerry. The woods show a lot of character.

Super COOL bowl!

1/8" thick! THAT is THIN! ...
One slight mistake and you have splintered firewood… Right?

Nice going!

I think the glue probably weighs more than the wood in this bowl!

Nice turning Gerry. Segmenting makes some interesting patterns. I haven't got brave enough to go that thin yet.

Fantastic segmented bowl! Love the patterns and the wood colors, the finish really made the pretty grains pop.
