I was commissioned to do another wedding plaque for some friends. I designed two winged rings to symbolize the rite of marriage, and in my opinion it complements well with the stylized font. The chip-carved border was very easy in comparison with the tedious slicing-out of the lettering. 11”x14” acrylic on basswood. Spray-on polyurethane finish.

Very, very nice work. I’ve found I can print the letters and pictures from my computer on paper, then glue the paper with rubber cement on the wood and carve through the paper. It saves me a ton of time. The glue rubs off and sands off prior to finishing. For words around a curve or random placement, I draw a line under the letters, cut the letters apart and glue them indivivually. It helps non artists like me from having to draw or trace onto wood. I even glued a picture or our home on wood and carved it once.

Thank you. Yep that’s kinda how I’ve been approaching it. I print out the material and trace, trace, trace. I think I might just try out your suggestion next time! I look forward to seeing some of your work.

Cool and meaningful plaque! Like the colors and the carving as well as the caption. I’m sure this will be greatly appreciated. Well done!
