Ok, here is another blast from the past. When out oldest moved out of the nursery and into his own room, we wanted a chest of drawers and a night stand. These were both completed in 2005 and are still holding up fines. Now both boys are sharing them, and the bunk bed from my blog has been built to match these pieces.
The pieces of the night stand that are painted are made out of poplar, and the top is made out of soft maple. The top is finished with three coats of satin polyurethane and then buffed out with paste wax and steel wool. This piece probably took me three days to make including the finishing.
The chest is similar. All painted pieces are either poplar or plywood, and the drawer fronts and top are soft maple with three coats of polyurethane for durability against almost anything that boys can throw at them. In this case, the drawers are on full extension side-mounted drawer slides. The drawers on this one are much nicer than the drawers on the other one. This piece took me probably close to a month to complete.
Hope you enjoy,

This is really great kids furniture. I really like the combination of painted and natural surfaces.
