Shown here is a Beer Flight Holder made for Hopunion LLC, a great client of mine that provides hops to most of the craft brewers all over America as well as thousands of homebrewers through local homebrew shops.
This was ordered as a gift to one of their clients, Russian River. They are a very good craft brewery located in Guerneville, California.
The piece is used to serve beer samples and will hold six glasses in the recesses in the wood.
I used my CNC Router to both cut the recesses as well as do the detailed work at the base of each recess.
The wood used is 1/2” thick mulberry that I slabbed and stacked over a year ago and measures 16×10 inches at it’s largest points, As you can see, there are a number of live edges as well as an edge I left that still has the marks from the chainsaw.
I used two pieces of walnut as legs to elevate the holder so it can easily be lifted and placed on a table.
Finish is around five coats of spray lacquer.
I really enjoyed making this piece – my client allows me a lot of artistic freedom and I think this piece is a unique example of that.
