Which is what it turned into after I made a funnel out of the regular bowl I was trying to turn. To save it i opened the hole in the bottom a bit then took some scrap walnut and added the spindle. It was too pretty to chuck in the burn pile.

Mineral stained sweet gum.

Good save. It does look to good to throw away. It has an interesting pattern. Might add a pic of inside to show how you did the save.

I have a bowl or platter, which ever you call it, I am going to do the same with an insert.

Thanks everyone. I will get the sizes tomorrow it is packed up to go to a show. But guessing it is about 2” high and maybe 3”x4” across. Not very big but I turn on a mini lathe so I’m limited in what I can do.
