Here is another spalted Maple that is about 8 – 9 inches in diameter. This will be another birthday present for the wife this coming Monday. 3 coats of Tung Oil with some Carnuba buffing.

spalting
might I comment on it.
exceptional in its beauty, its natural finesse, difficult to capture and much like the human spirit in that all we look at it as being, often jsut skin deep. we look at food, flowers, smells, and are often fooled.
How often have we looked at men, at women, and thought “what an exceptional example of genetic replication”............another “UGLY ONE” How often have we looked at an “obese” person and judged them or that person who has”bad teeth”
To me “spalted wood” is ugly in its rotten log “state” and yet just under its sick and infected looking skin is a “wonder” so often passed by.
beauty is skin deep and nicely captured in this bowl

A beautiful piece of art.
It’s amazing what fungus can do.

I think this would look great in the updated bathroom with some decorative scented soaps in it.

Or maybe some potpourri…mwahahahaha (sorry Charlie, couldn’t keep off the dogpile).
Oh, and Kerux, beautiful job with a fine piece of nature’s handiwork. Per the most recent FWW, did you turn this green and did you notice any big variations in the softness of the blank during turning and sanding?

Doug,
This bowl I roughed, DNA’s and then3 weeks or so later I turned it. This thing is so light and feels like it could be Styrofoam. I was going to be more elaborate with the foot but got to afraid to ‘dig’ in to it.
