The doorway to our family room is close to the end wall with our entertainment electronics and there was not enough space for any purchased storage. I saw steel cabinet with the shelving attached to the front doors in a catalog. This is my adaptation, a 32 wide by 51 inch high cabinet that does not block the walk way. The front frame is solid cherry, only needed one board to rip the individual sections from and a single piece of cherry plywood for the doors, sides and top. The back and actual shelves are basswood plywood. A simple 1/4 slot is near the bottom of each door, with the shelf glued in and the end caps provide the support to the shelf from the doors. The solid cherry was planned down to be and 1/8 thicker than the plywood so the doors are slightly recessed.

Nice work buddy. I can see right now that you have adapted to retirement rather quickly :). You had better be careful though, others will start thinking of woodworking projects for you to do :).

It looks good and sturdy. I am sure that this will be enjoyed and will last for a long time. Great job!
