This was the first project that I made from a large piece of water oak that died at my in-laws. I think this was the best piece as far as the figuring in the oak. It was made for my Brother-in-law, who used to surf, and has very fleeting interests. I shaped the board with my coping saw and a lot, and I mean a lot of sanding. The small fins were made from scraps. Being that I didn’t have any tools, the fins are just glued to the board without any special kind of joint. I told Marshall to be careful with them. The verse was unskillfully added with my $5 burner. The hole was drilled so that it could be used as a Christmas ornament, but that idea was given the kibosh. I put two coats of polyurethane on the outside.

That’s cool!

Very cool and meaningful keepsake for a friend. It’s handmade which makes it more special.
