My wife decided she wanted a fireplace surround with mantel, so I decided to give it a try myself. This is only my second build ever and first surround/mantel. It turned out pretty good. I did this one in Poplar, Kilzed, and painted white. I added crown mold for some of the decorative trim. I did cheat a little bit, being new to this building stuff! I used the corner blocks from Home Depot to cut down on having to cut so many matching corners. They actually turned out looking very nice. Hope you like!

It looks nice and I’m sure your wife loves it.

-- Bill M. I love my job as a firefighter, but nothing gives me the satisfaction of running my hand over a project that I have built and just finished sanding.
