Walnut and maple night stand

Project by NICUTO posted 511 days ago 415 views 0 times favorited 4 comments Add to Favorites Watch

Here is a piece i completed in the fall of 2006. It was a speculative piece of my design that i used to fill some shop time.

The legs are walnut with a maple pin stripe. Here what I did was rip the legs as if I was going to create a normal mitered leg, BUT between the walnut I installed a 1/8” strip of maple. Now those glue ups used a lot of clamps!!

The drawer is maple, dovetailed and on maple guides. This was there first time that I used my Porter Cable dovetail jig that my girlfriend got me for Christmas. It worked pretty well but took a while to get dialed into the correct settings.

The top is solid walnut with a maple spline. This was also my first go a using a card scarper. What a great tool to add to my repertoire.

Please feel free to ask any questions you’ve got.
Nick

Thanks for looking

Very nice, sounds like you enjoyed your shop time on this project. Couldn’t ask for better time spent.

Thanka for sharing.
