This was done as a request from a friend and fellow beer brewer.
He requested this sign be made to hang in his brew-house.
Over a year ago, our power company took down a HUGE mulberry tree and I was able to snag a bunch of logs from it. This is one I slabbed on my band saw and had drying since last summer. It seemed like the perfect fit for this image.
The really nice thing about mulberry is that it is very stable, which makes it really nice for scrollsaw work. It also oxidizes to a deep brown over time – bonus!
I was able to keep live edges on three sides of this piece – another bonus!
Overall, the piece measures around 17” x 8” and is around 1/8” thick.
Finish, as usual, consists of a soak in lemon oil and then backed with thick felt.
The first pic was taken by my friend – it’s already hanging in the brewhouse. :-)
